In 2006, the film director Ilo Ghlonti presented the audience a short film "Five Variations" which was a great success. Shot with a subjective camera, this work tells one family’s adventures as seen by five characters. It is true that during the existence of cinema, many films have been created on this principle, including great directors. For example, the Japanese Akira Kurosawa's film “Rashomon” (1950) was the first to appeal to a new vision (a story seen differently by several people, thus subverting established film dramaturgy). As far as is known, there was no similar precedent in Georgian cinema.
From the very first days of its birth, cinema has always tried to realize its main "task"- to tell a story in an interesting way with independent and original audiovisual methods. Logically, the methods, forms and content of cinematic narration and delivery have undergone large-scale development and transformation during its existence. Neither is it unusual that the main characters of films, who are not only in the center of attention but also become "narrators" themselves, are not directly human, but also other spiritual or non-spiritual beings.
In the history of Georgian cinema, the characteristics of the vision constantly changed in the footsteps of poetic and metaphorical artistic thinking, as well as what today is called modernity perceived as facts and events, which is always accompanied by an existential crisis caused by changes or wars and pandemics.
Kote Chabakauri's short student film "Toy Horse" (2019) has three characters: Giorgi (Tedo Bekauri), Mother (Nino Kvitatiani) and Keto (Keti Chkhartishvili). The director describes one part of the main character, Giorgi’s life, which may be considered as a turning point in the routine of this character.
